As a Progressive Christian community, West Hill United Church is committed to reaching across boundaries by appealing to those values which ring true in any place and at any time, and in any belief system.  You can see some of those values named on the home page of this web site, hovering in the background just as they do in all our lives.  They are values like love, compassion, truth and beauty.

But it isn’t as if we are providing you with a product.  There is no Progressive Christian pill we can give you that will suddenly break down all the boundaries that have crept into traditional modes of belief.  Progressive Christianity isn’t a thing or an idea so much as an exercise, a process we bring to bear on our daily living.  And like any exercise, it takes commitment.

The instant you step into our midst, our community changes irrevocably.  You challenge and enrich us.  There ceases to be a “we” and “you” – together, we become part of a larger human system – a community.  At the same time, you assume the responsibility which goes along with being part of a progressive spiritual community.  This is the responsibility of doing your part to ensure that the community continues to provide the inclusive conditions which allow for an authentic engagement with the spiritual dimension of our lives.
