The Need for Sanctuary

The need for sanctuary in our churches, cities, and world.

The Canadian Sanctuary Network is a voluntary network which advocates for the fair treatment for refugees. Where possible, they work with refugees and their supporters to seek remedies for those whose refugee claims have failed, and face removal to a country where they are at risk. They are inspired by the ancient practice of Sanctuary which is grounded in the belief that:

Human life is sacred and worthy of protection.
There are places and spaces that are beyond the reach of the state.

Canada has both a domestic and international legal obligation to protect refugees. The sanctuary movement believes in acts of “civil initiative” to hold Canada accountable to these obligations and to protect refugees from being unfairly treated in Canada.

WELCOME REV. ALEXA GILMOUR

Rev. Alexa Gilmour is a human rights activist, social entrepreneur, preacher, prophet, and author. She is currently working on the Contagious Hope Project, an inter-faith exploration of what justice and love looks like outside of the pews in the streets of the city.
She is also completing both her McGeachie Senior Scholarship work and a Doctorate of Ministry from University of California, Berkeley.
When she is not working, she can often be found giggling over a good joke with her spouse and their four children or hiking with the Spirit through a provincial park.
