June 5th 2022: There is a There out There

With Cindy Bourgeois

Watch here: There is a There out There

After more than two years of a world-wide pandemic which has exposed deep divisions in our society combined with horrific shootings and mass child graves at residential schools it is easy to feel overwhelmed with despair. We all want a better world and we all in our time have worked hard to help make the world better. But still we see suffering and division. We try to help our neighbour and we do help our neighbour but still the world is filled with suffering. It makes us question if we are really doing anything when we help those in need. Yes, we can help one tiny piece of the web of life but are we really doing anything? The first thing to remember is that our neighbour who is in need and receives assistance appreciates the help. It makes a material difference in their lives. And that can make us feel good. But it does more than just that. It honours the Web of Life. We are not disconnected atoms of people. We are a part of each other. We belong to one another and our well-being is bound with the well-being of our neighbour. This Sunday we will look at the metaphysics of community and see how helping others does more than just make us feel good. It offers healing to our neighbour and ourselves and indeed the entire Web of Life. It pulls us out of ourselves and reminds us that there is a there out there. Everything is waiting for you.
