This Sunday we will explore how race penetrates within higher education athletics. With my research, I hope to explore what the institutions are doing for Black Student athletes. Supporting the Black community and working to create a space free of racism contributes to social change that is present within any institution. Through culturally relevant pedagogies and educational tools, they allow us to challenge oppressive systems through an intersectional lens that will be sustainable in practices for generations to come. When reflecting on other institutions and your own personal position; are you a player who just is there to put on a show and anti-racism efforts are inconsistent and tenuous, are you a coach who will be calling the shots and working to make sure everyone does their part in ensuring anti-racism is sustainable or, are you a spectator, remaining ignorant to the social issues that are built within sports? Do you play an alternate role? Where do you fit in?
